Leeds United reserves suffered a fourth successive league defeat after going down 3-1 at Huddersfield Town on Wednesday.

After the two senior sides shared the honours at the Galpharm Stadium last weekend, it was Huddersfield's reserves who had the edge on Wednesday by picking up all three points.

The positive for Leeds came in the shape of new signing Paul Dickov, who played the full 90 minutes as he looks to build up his match fitness.

Leeds also handed a debut to Hungarian trialist goalkeeper Mathias Esterhazy while Rui Marquesmade his return from injury.

But Huddersfield were in front inside the opening 10 minutes when Aidan Chippindale's left-foot strike looped over Esterhazy and into the net.

United responded, courtesy of an Andy Robinson free-kick and a Mike Grella effort, but Neil Thompson's side were trailing at the interval.

And the home side doubled their lead on 55 minutes when Taser Hassan delivered a cross from the right and Chippindale headed home.

Dickov, who had only completed the formalities of his arrival late in the afternoon, was industrious for United and he went close on 67 minutes when twisted and turned before firing over the top.

Moments later, Grella pulled a goal back when he scored with a good strike to reduce the arrears and that looked to set up a tense finale.

Tresor Kandol did send an effort wide during the closing stages, but Huddersfield made it 3-1 in the final minutes when Esterhazy failed to hold a cross and Stephen Powell converted with ease..

United: Esterhazy, Crowe, L Turner, Darville, Marques, Michalik, Robinson, Grella, Kandol, Dickov, Cronesbury (Hatfield 46). Subs: Cairns, Jones, Whitwell, Watson.
