Gary McSheffrey wheels away after scoring

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson branded his side's performance as "unacceptable" following Tuesday's Elland Road defeat at the hands of Walsall.

United suffered a first home league defeat in 13 months after a controversial late goal sealed a 2-1 win for the visiting Saddlers.

Walsall had scored within 45 seconds of the start of the second half and after Gary McSheffrey equalised with his first goal for the club, Walsall took the points late on.

"The first half was unacceptable," said the United manager. "It was nowhere near what we expect at this club.

"There was wrong decision making, a lack of desire, and we didn't pass it well. Everything that makes a team was wrong.

"We were devoid of too many things and I made my feelings known at half-time. I could have taken any player off at half-time because of how we played

"We said  we wanted a reaction and we had to react and straight away we conceded. We did get back, but in the end we got what we deserved.

"It was disappointing to concede so quickly, but I thought if we got back in it we would go and win it. But we made wrong decisions and it wasn't our night.

"We didn't have the fluidity or the composure we expect in the final third."

The United manager refused to complain about the goal that handed Walsall the points despite TV replays failing to show the ball clearly crossing the line.

"I've seen it from five or six angles and it's inconclusive," he added.

"The linesman made a decision and he made one he thought was right."
